How much sun can a Lindera glauca var. salicifolia take?

I have just purchased one and would like to put it in a mostly sunny, mixed perennial and shrub bed (with two vibunum, a kerria, an abellia, two hydrangea and a silphium perfoliatum-cup not compass-scattered around in the same 50x120' area and all doing well). There is some dappled shade on my intended spot for the lindera in the morning but sun the rest of the day. Is the lindera an understory plant only or will a bit of shade / mostly sun / moist-but-not-wet location be acceptable?

Answer

Pam, this lindera is a great plant for your area.  They are quite tough and should tolerate the conditions you describe.  Just be sure to use good planting practices and not plant it too deeply.  Thanks for contacting PHS. ep
