I am looking for training on growing flowering African violets.
Do you know of any classes you have or of ones offered elsewhere?
Answer
African violets like bright indirect light and/or two fluorescent bulbs a foot above them 13 hours a day. They may be moved into a full sun area from November through March in our area. Repot annually with a free draining, soiless potting soil with perlite and vermiculite to ensure oxygen gets to the roots. Water should be lukewarm and added when the soil is dryish to the touch but not completely dry. Use a balnced fertilizer 1/2 to 1/4 strength when you water and you should be rewarded with flowers and deep green leaves.
There is a local African Violet Society
