Is it possible to grow Spanish Broom in the Philly suburbs?
I love the fragrance, but I suspect there's a reason I've never noticed any nearby. If I can't grow it in the ground, is it possible to grow in a pot?
Answer
Dear Gardener: Spanish Broom is not hardy in our area. It is native to Syria, Turkey, North Aftica etc. which are areas of zones 8-10. We are zone 6B. It does get quite tall to grow as a houseplant and does require full sun, so unless you have a greenhouse, I would think growing it indoors would be difficult. It does have wonderfully fragrant flowers!
