We have a concolor fir tree in our urban backyard. We would like to control its growth. Is it OK to remove the leader?

Is it OK to remove the leader? Is it OK to tip the branches? Is it OK to prune now? Does PHS have a list of recommended tree service companies? Thanks.

Answer

Don't prune now as we are going into Fall. Pruning stimulates the tree to grow just before winter which can damage it. Have a  reputable arborist prune in early or during spring for the best results. Try Bartlett or any other certified arborist.
