Resources for lawn alternatives and model ordinances for using native plants
I am looking into resources and best practices for lawn alternatives both for homeowners and for local jurisdiction ordinances. Is this an area that you have information on? I'm looking for model ordinances that allow for native plants and meadows, and how to promote and encourage residents to change their ordinances.
Answer
You don't say where you live, but I did Google these keywords:
model ordinance landowners native plants lawns Pennsylvania
and got these results:
Neighborly Natural Landscaping in Residential Areas
Native Plant Ordinance - Audubon, Pennsylvania
Model ordinances outside Pennsylvania:
Model Ordinance for Using Natives
Model Native Plant Landscape Ordinance
Weeding Out Bad Vegetation Control Ordinances
along with several other promising looking links.
We do have a Subject Guide listing books and web sites on sustainable landscape design and organic lawns.

If you are in the Philadelphia area, let me know and we can set up a time for you to consult the books listed in the subject guide. If you are a PHS member, you can borrow the books and access the eBooks on this topic.
Hope this helps!
